About Renata

Psychotherapist in Ontario
Meet your therapist

Hi, I'm Renata. I know reaching out for therapy is not always easy, so thank you for being here.

Intrusive thoughts, anxiety, grief, or relationship difficulties can begin to shape how you move through everyday life, sometimes in ways that are hard to explain or control.

As a psychotherapist in Ontario, based in Toronto, I offer therapy in English and Portuguese to clients across the province. I work primarily with anxiety, OCD, emotional challenges, and grief, including pet loss.

Alongside supporting adults, I also work with children and adolescents, drawing from over 15 years of clinical experience and doctoral training in Child and Youth Studies. Supporting parents is often an important part of my work with children and adolescents.

My approach is shaped by an understanding that experiences don’t exist in isolation; they take form within the contexts we live in

Bringing Clinical and Academic Work Together

Education & Clinical Training

In my work as a psychotherapist, I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, as well as my PhD in Child and Youth Studies and postdoctoral training, where I conducted research on mental health and human–animal interactions.I am also a Certified Pet Loss Grief Support Specialist.

Much of the people I work with are used to carrying a lot on their own. Sometimes emotions become difficult to manage, relationships feel strained, or it simply becomes hard to slow down and make sense of what’s happening internally.

In therapy, we create a space where these connections can be explored, especially in moments when things feel overwhelming or uncertain.

I offer in-person therapy in Toronto and online across Ontario, creating a space for thoughtful and collaborative work.

Person-Centered Approach

With over 15 years of clinical experience as a licensed psychologist in Brazil, I’ve learned that true healing begins with connection. My clinical philosophy is person-centred, rooted in empathy, authenticity, and respect. Whether in my current work as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Ontario or in my earlier experience as a psychologist in Brazil, my goal remains the same: to create a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their emotions and move toward balance and well-being.

My experience working with children, adolescents, and families has shaped the way I understand emotional difficulties, not as isolated experiences, but as something that develops within relationships, attachment patterns, family dynamics, and life experiences.

In my clinical work, I integrate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Psychodynamic principles to support emotional regulation, resilience, and meaningful changes.

My academic work continues to explore the human-animal bond and its relevance for emotional health, but my greatest passion lies in helping people, those who are grieving, those feeling anxious, and those simply seeking to reconnect with themselves and the world around them.

Thank you for being here!
