Bringing Clinical and Academic Work Together

Education & Clinical Training

In my work as a psychotherapist, I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches, as well as my PhD in Child and Youth Studies and postdoctoral training, where I conducted research on mental health and human–animal interactions.

I am also a Certified Pet Loss Grief Support Specialist through the American Institute of Healthcare Professionals. My work brings together research and clinical practice to understand how relationships, including those with pets, shape emotional experiences across the lifespan.

In my clinical work, I support individuals navigating anxiety, OCD, depression, and trauma, as well as experiences of grief, including pet loss. These areas are not separate from one another. Rather, they often intersect in meaningful ways, reflecting broader emotional and relational patterns that unfold within each person’s life.

Person-Centered Approach

With over 15 years of clinical experience as a licensed psychologist in Brazil, I’ve learned that true healing begins with connection. My clinical philosophy is person-centred, rooted in empathy, authenticity, and respect. Whether in my current work as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Ontario or in my earlier experience as a psychologist in Brazil, my goal remains the same: to create a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their emotions and move toward balance and well-being.

When working with couples, I use a Gottman Method-informed approach to support communication, understanding and connection. In my clinical work, I integrate evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Psychodynamic principles to support emotional regulation, resilience, and meaningful changes.

My academic work continues to explore the human-animal bond and its relevance for emotional health, but my greatest passion lies in helping people, those who are grieving, those feeling anxious, and those simply seeking to reconnect with themselves and the world around them.
